Paola Cubillos
A native of Bogotá, Colombia, Paola Cubillos is currently a Doctoral candidate under the guidance of Dr. Mihoko Watanabe at Ball State University. Paola strives to become a university professor. Ms. Cubillos has been a member of ensembles in Colombia and the United States including the Springfield-Drury Civic Orchestra and Muncie Symphony Orchestra. Also, winner of the Missouri Music Teachers Association (MMTA) Graduate Woodwinds and Collegiate Woodwinds Ensemble competition, 2017. In 2016, Paola completed her Master of Arts and Letters in Music Performance at Missouri State University with Dr. Jill Heyboer and is a part of the Zeta Beta Chapter of the National Music Honor Society, Pi Kappa Lambda. Some of her pastimes include cooking, baking, exercising, coloring, reading, and more.

Tamara Deichert
Tamara Deichert is a flutist and private lesson instructor located in Muncie, Indiana, pursuing Doctoral study at Ball State University. Ms. Deichert holds a Master’s in Music Performance degree from Austin Peay State University and a Bachelor’s in Music Performance from the University of Wyoming. In her spare time, Ms. Deichert enjoys cooking, traveling, podcasts, and CrossFit.

Mackenzie Faust
Hello! My name is Mackenzie Faust and I'm from Avon, Indiana. I am a freshman Music Media Production Major and I’ve been playing flute since the 6th grade! Before Ball State, I’ve participated in solo and ensemble, as well as Avon High School’s marching and indoor winds programs. I was a part of the symphony orchestra and joined various honor bands around the state. I’m looking forward to immersing myself into the music program at Ball state as well as learning more skills and techniques on the flute!

Jessica Halamka
Coming from Fishers, Indiana, Jessica Halamka is a sophomore Music Education student while pursuing a minor in German. Before becoming a member of the Ball State Flute Studio, she participated in the Indianapolis Youth Orchestra and the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Pit Orchestra, Show Choir Band, and Marching Band at Fishers High School. Jessica enjoys reading and sudoku while also being a member of the Ball State Rock Climbing Club and German Club. She aspires to become a band director at either the middle school or high school level while also teaching private lessons.

Emily House
Emily House is a fifth year student studying music performance at Ball State University. She comes from a small town in southern Indiana called Lawrenceburg, just down the river from Cincinnati, Ohio. During her time at Ball State, she has performed with the Ball State Wind Symphony, the Ball State Symphony Orchestra, the New Music Ensemble, and she currently is the piccolo player for the Ball State Wind Ensemble. Emily enjoys coloring and watching movies in her free time and hopes to one day teach her own students while being a part of her community’s music programs.

Malana Luttrell
Malana Luttrell is a Junior at Ball State in the Music Media Production (MMP) program. She comes from Pendleton, Indiana, a small town about 30 minutes southwest of Muncie. She started playing flute in 6th grade, and she has loved it since. Malana participated in various bands throughout high school, including marching band, wind ensemble, and pep band. Currently, she is a participant of Ball State’s Wind Symphony and the Flute Studio. As for the future, she hopes to spread her love of music through the songs she produces, and she is excited to see where a future in music takes her and what experiences she will have.

Dakotah Mandina
A Missouri native, Dakotah Mandina is a first-year graduate student working on his Master of Music in Multiple woodwind specialties. He holds a Bachelor of Music in flute performance from Truman State University. During his time at Truman, Dakotah performed with many ensembles including the Wind Symphony, the Symphony Orchestra, the Woodwind Choir, and the Statesmen marching band. He was also the Truman Flute Quartet's coordinator and a drum major with the Statesmen Marching Band. Dakotah also enjoys cooking, photography, quilting, and many more activities. In the future, he hopes to land a job playing in a pit orchestra.

Anna Pinto
Anna Pinto is a freshman music education major who comes from West Lafayette, Indiana. She began playing flute in middle school and participated in her school’s concert band, jazz band, pep band, pit orchestra, and marching band, serving as the drum major her senior year. Anna also participated in the Wabash Valley Youth Symphony for four years and the Indiana All-State Band for one year. At Ball State, she is a member of the Pride of Mid-America Marching Band, wind symphony, flute ensemble, and flute studio. In the future, Anna aspires to teach high school band and hopes to encourage students to share and explore the excellence of music.

Nicholson Smith
Nicholson is a freshman at Ball State and is originally from Tuscola, Texas. Nicholson is a current music education major and has been playing the flute since 6th grade. He had a very exciting high school career, previously a member of the Abilene Youth Orchestra under Dr. Steven Ward, and earned a spot in the Association of Texas Small School Bands Symphonic All-State Band for 2 years placing 5th and 1st chair overall. Nicholson is very excited to continue his education with Dr. Watanabe for the coming year. He likes to take every opportunity to learn and grow as a musician, attending master classes and taking lessons whenever possible. He hopes to be able to continue his education and get a master’s and doctorate in flute performance, with the goal of winning a spot in a major orchestra or playing for film orchestra. |
Savännah Sturgell
Savännah Sturgell is a senior flutist and an aspiring music educator planning to graduate in May 2024. She hails from Trafalgar, Indiana, a small town just south of Indianapolis. During her time at Ball State she has participated in a number of ensembles including the Ball State Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony, Pride of Mid-America Marching Band, and the Cardinal Wind Quintet. In addition, she is a member of several professional associations such as the Indiana Music Educators Association (IMEA), CNAFME (collegiate national association for music education), and is a brother of Kappa Kappa Psi national honorary band fraternity. In her time away from school, she frequently serves as a staff member for many local band programs in the area gaining teaching experiences and inspiring and assisting students as they grow as musicians and people. During her free time, she enjoys prioritizing fitness, cooking, and spending time with loved ones.
